2 Daily Maintenance Tips Your Teen Should Use While Wearing Invisalign

by Christy Long

Wearing traditional braces can be difficult for a teenager to handle. While many younger children have traditional braces, this can be more uncommon the older you get. As a result, getting Invisalign may be the next-best thing for your teen. Invisalign works just like traditional braces except they blend in with your normal teeth. This allows your teen to straighten their smile without the worry of wearing noticeable braces. The Invisalign dental appliance can also be easily removed. Just like any other dental appliance, Invisalign needs to be maintained daily in order to remain healthy. Luckily, there are a few tips that you can use to help your teen do this.

Use an Oral Rinse to Rinse out the Dental Device

Your teen's dental device should be rinsed out at least in the morning and at night. This prevents bacteria growth from having a chance to grow around the dental device while your teen is sleeping. In order to clean the device as well as possible, you should instruct your teen to use an oral rinse. Inside of rinsing with plain water, the Invisalign device should be rinsed with an antibacterial mouthwash. This will kill off any hidden bacteria, and then your teen can use warm water to rinse the device again. In addition, if your teen's device is not in use, then they can use this same antibacterial oral wash to soak it.

Remove Food Contaminants After Meals

If your teen uses their device to eat, then it is important for them to use a toothbrush to remove any of the leftover food debris. This can be done by removing the appliance and using a toothbrush to clean it. This prevents food that is trapped between your teen's teeth and the appliance from breeding bacteria. In addition, your teen should use a toothbrush to clean the other areas of their mouth before reinserting the appliance. If they do not use their dental device to eat, then they should thoroughly clean their mouth before reapplying their Invisalign appliance. It is important to avoid waiting until nighttime until you brush your teeth. Wearing a dental device makes it difficult to keep track of food and other contaminants in the mouth.

If your teen manages to maintain their Invisalign appliance on a regular basis, then they will quickly notice a difference in the health of their teeth. Therefore, use this as a guide to ensure that they are able to do exactly that.

About Me

Improve Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry

I was very unhappy with the way that my front teeth looked. They were crooked and stained with an ugly yellow tint. I asked my dentist if there was anything that could be done to improve them. After discussing the options with my dentist, I decided to have crowns put on my front teeth. The procedure was painless and I wish that I had done it sooner. My name is Constance Graham and I am writing this blog to inform others about cosmetic dentistry. If you don’t like the way your teeth look, speak to your dentist about improving your smile. There are various cosmetic procedures that you can have done such as veneers, crowns, teeth whitening, and dental implants. I hope you use the information in this blog to learn more about cosmetic dentistry and how it can help you.
