2 Herbal Mouthwashes To Help You Avoid Demineralization While Wearing Braces

by Christy Long

Braces are extremely effective in creating a uniform smile. However, the brackets that hold your teeth together can also lead to food and bacteria buildup. This buildup creates an acidic environment in your mouth if it is not removed immediately. Eventually, the buildup will result in demineralization. Demineralization occurs when the minerals that your teeth are composed of are stripped from it. If you suffer from demineralized teeth, then you will notice an increase in tooth sensitivity and tooth decay. Preventing demineralization while wearing braces relies on a strong dental care routine. Fortunately, there are a few herbal mouthwashes that you can add to your dental care routine in order to do this.

Peppermint and Salt Mouthwash

Peppermint and salt have long been used to create homemade mouthwashes. Peppermint and salt are considered to be effective because they contain antibacterial properties. These properties fight off bacterial infections and help to remove toxins. Start by boiling a medium pot of hot water. Add a handful of peppermint and two spoonfuls of salt. Allow the mixture to boil for a few minutes, then remove from the stove. Cover the pot and allow all of the ingredients to steep overnight. In the morning, use the mouthwash after brushing your teeth. Work it into the small gaps and cracks around your braces. Focus on your gum line for a few minutes, then rinse out the mouthwash. Use this mouthwash after every meal in order to ensure that all of the food debris are removed.

Andiroba Oil Mouthwash

Andiroba oil is extracted from the nut, bark, and leaves of the plant. Andiroba oil is an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic oil that is used to prevent infection and promote healing in the skin. Place a small pot of water on the stove to boil. Once the water boils, add three drops of andiroba oil. Remove the pot and wait for the mixture to cool. When it cools, work the mixture throughout your entire mouth. Focus on your gum line and try to weave it in between your brackets. Once done, avoid swallowing the mixture and rinse your mouth out with warm water. Use the rinse once a day in order to remove any buildup of bacteria and food in your mouth.

Improving your dental care routine is the first step in order to fight off bacteria. Use these mouthwashes to help prevent demineralization while you wear braces.

About Me

Improve Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry

I was very unhappy with the way that my front teeth looked. They were crooked and stained with an ugly yellow tint. I asked my dentist if there was anything that could be done to improve them. After discussing the options with my dentist, I decided to have crowns put on my front teeth. The procedure was painless and I wish that I had done it sooner. My name is Constance Graham and I am writing this blog to inform others about cosmetic dentistry. If you don’t like the way your teeth look, speak to your dentist about improving your smile. There are various cosmetic procedures that you can have done such as veneers, crowns, teeth whitening, and dental implants. I hope you use the information in this blog to learn more about cosmetic dentistry and how it can help you.
