Ease The Pain Of A Toothache At Home

by Christy Long

If you are having a toothache then call your dentist and ask for the soonest available appointment. There are a lot of reasons you can experience pain in your tooth and all of them require treatment from a dentist. Some examples of things that can bring this pain on include a fractured tooth, a break, an exposed nerve, a cavity and an infection. Whether or not the dentist is able to get you in right away for treatment, you still want to be armed with home remedies that can help you to deal with the pain until it goes away. Read the information here to get rid of some of the pain and discomfort without the use of medications.

Use cold to ease the pain

Coldness can help to numb the area. While this may not last long, it will provide you with instant relief that takes much of the pain away. With a bad toothache, you may have pain that radiates to the outside of your face and holding a cold compress against the outside of your cheek can help with this. Biting down gently on an ice cube and allowing it to completely melt on the affected tooth is a very good way of getting instant relief as well.

Gargle with warm salt water

You can heat up a cup of warm water and sprinkle in a good amount of table salt. Stir it up and use the solution to gargle with and swish around in your mouth. Try to get as much of the solution as possible toward the tooth that is aching. The solution will help to ease the pain and it can also help to ward off infection to a certain degree. However, you don't want to count on it solely to get rid of an infection and still want to get in to see the dentist as soon as possible.

Use a piece of garlic

Garlic can also be used to help ease the pain of a toothache. You can take a fresh clove of garlic and break off a small sized piece. Place it next to your tooth, as close to the part that's hurting as possible. You should find the toothache gone soon, but the garlic will leave a strong taste in your mouth and give you bad breath, so you do want to prepare yourself for this.

Use some clove oil

Clove oil is known to be very good when it comes to giving relief from a toothache. The easiest and most efficient way to use this oil is to dab a piece of cotton into the oil and allow it to absorb into the cotton. Place it right next to the hurting tooth. Be prepared to feel a little stinging sensation in your mouth when you first put the clove oil in your mouth. However, this sensation won't last long and you should have relief from the pain by the time the stinging is gone. Contact a dentist, like Ann L Ortega DDS, for more help.

About Me

Improve Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry

I was very unhappy with the way that my front teeth looked. They were crooked and stained with an ugly yellow tint. I asked my dentist if there was anything that could be done to improve them. After discussing the options with my dentist, I decided to have crowns put on my front teeth. The procedure was painless and I wish that I had done it sooner. My name is Constance Graham and I am writing this blog to inform others about cosmetic dentistry. If you don’t like the way your teeth look, speak to your dentist about improving your smile. There are various cosmetic procedures that you can have done such as veneers, crowns, teeth whitening, and dental implants. I hope you use the information in this blog to learn more about cosmetic dentistry and how it can help you.
